Falling off horse

Should be easy!
I am trying to track down a western, probably late 50s, which open with a horse walking into town with a slumped rider who then falls off - possibly dead. Might be be exactly that, this is an 80 year old remembering a film form long ago.
The Tall Stranger has been suggested but reading a synopsis it doesn't seem right and in Shane the riding off possibly dead is at the end. Any ideas anyone?
